Bio
Mattie Leon is a singer/songwriter hailing from Hamilton, Ontario. A craftsman on guitar and piano, he refuses to leave the past behind. Mattie’s sensibilities are informed by the songwriting of the sixties and seventies. His voice, whether soaring or soulful, is his own. The result is a fresh take on a classic form; familiar but unmistakably new.
Mattie is no stranger to the road. He’s brought his music to stages across Canada, from the Atlantic to Pacific coasts. At his side are his brother and longtime collaborator, Mike Leon, and bassist Nelson Sobral. He's worked with some of Canada's best producers; Gavin Brown (2021's In natural light), John Angus MacDonald (2025's Dreaming On Your Feet) & Mark Howard (2023's Backroad Medicine) and played some of the country's finest festivals (folk on the rocks, supercrawl). he's been nominated for songwriting awards and had singles added to rotation on sirius xm. His music has been used in documentaries and on tv (nbc) and some songs have racked up hundreds of thousands of streams.
His latest release, Taking Our Time Growing Up, is A joyous piano rocker about his 4 years at Penn State University on a golf scholarship. Self produced in Hamilton, Ontario the song features bandmates Mike Leon & Nelson Sobral
